As a Field Technician, you’ll be responsible for maintaining the integrity and performance of our fiber network infrastructure. This includes installation, upgrades, diagnostics, and repair of network elements in both lab and live environments. You will manage resources and support customer service efforts across the region—playing a critical role in our day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for your assigned area
- Install, configure, provision, and upgrade systems at collocation and customer sites
- Perform remote and on-site diagnostics of fiber optic networks and equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair customer circuits and network issues
- Test and deploy new technologies and equipment in lab and field settings
- Maintain and operate telecommunications equipment (DWDM, SONET, Ethernet)
- Document and report service activities accurately and timely
Qualifications
- 2+ years of field experience in telecom, working with fiber optic and coaxial cables, optical equipment, and power systems
- Proficiency in testing services and knowledge of DWDM, SONET, and Ethernet technologies
- Valid driver’s license and strong geographic navigation skills
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Customer service-oriented, team player, adaptable, and proactive
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours as needed
Physical & Mental Demands
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying outdoor conditions
- Comfortable driving long distances and working at heights (e.g., on ladders)
- Must be able to analyze, interpret, and troubleshoot complex technical systems
- Clear vision and hearing required for accurate diagnostics and field work
Equipment Used
- Test equipment: OTDR, light meters, DS1–100G test sets
- Network equipment: SONET, DWDM, M13 Mux, T1 DACs, MetroE, CPE
- Tools: Ladders, power tools, fiber tools, general hand tools
- Standard office equipment and company-provided vehicle
Work Environment
- Central offices, data centers, customer locations, and remote network sites
- Outdoor and indoor environments—exposure to varying weather, heights, and voltage
- Frequent regional travel, occasional long-distance driving
